BECOMING PLANT
DANCE SESSIONS

CYCLE OF DANCE SESSIONS

An invitation for a joint investigation of BECOMING-PLANT: a labor of unlearning stiff somatic and mental habits within a cycle of dance sessions.

“The idea of becoming-plant is an idea within us, composing us because becoming-plant happens.”

“Becoming is the name for this provisional co-creative zone in which the ‘parties’ and their ‘proper functions’ are themselves effaced and augmented.”

Karen L. F. Houle · Animal, Vegetable, Mineral: Ethics as Extension or Becoming? The Case of Becoming-Plant

It is a tricky laboratory, a place of mixing somatic techniques with plant philosophy, recipes for producing bio-plastic with movement scores, political contexts with fantasizing, feminist practice with biology textbooks and so on. Within each session, we practice the perception of our tangible selves as co-extensive with the milieu and explore such qualities as complete exposure, connectivity, acceptance of nuances. The sessions are oriented around different issues such as: body as a process, weight of the air, fluidity and circulation, snacking on light, exchanging resources, embodiment in communication, temporalities, one that does not distinguish between objects & substances, a sense of safety, radical openness.

“We are not inhabitants of the Earth; we inhabit the atmosphere. Terra firma is just the extreme limit of this cosmic fluid at the heart of which everything communicates, touches, extends.”
Emanuele Coccia · The Life of Plants. A Metaphysics of Mixture
