2024 research wilderness

LUSH BLAST:
TASTING
THE UNTAMED IN  FAGARAS

A choreographic field research on wilderness, grounded in the soils of Carpathian high altitudes, challenging conditions and rewilding dreams.

Hosted by Teatrul Andrei Muresan and Foundation Conservation Carpathia in Fagaraš Mountains.

Within the choreographic research, ecological fieldwork and dance practice intersect. We explore processes of rewiliding from a somatic and systemic perspective, connecting land, politics and our inner bodies. We focus on the role of embodiment in ecology and ecological thought in artistic practice. Dance becomes a sensitive container where bodies, voices, matters, and machines converge intimately.

The project began in the summer of 2022, when, during our first field study in the Carpathian Wilderness, we encountered a young bear and an over 800 year old arolla pine. Since then, we keep learning from the old-growth forests and wildlife about what ‘power’ and ‘relatedness’ mean. We collect local stories about natural disasters, cross-species collaborations and the ongoing struggles for ecological cohabitation.
